Custom Blinds and Shades in Avon, IN
Blinds, shades, shutters and drapery measured in your Avon home and built to your openings. Most of Avon went up after 2000, so the openings are square and the returns are drywall. We check both before we quote.
If we're busy with another customer and miss your call, leave a message and we'll call you back.
The short answers for Avon: measures are booked in advance, custom orders take weeks to build, service work is much faster, and none of it needs to happen overnight. Longer answers to everything else are below.
- Services: faux wood blinds, wood blinds, vertical blinds, aluminum mini blinds
- Service area: Avon, Hendricks County, IN and surrounding areas Nothing in window treatments needs a middle-of-the-night call-out. What matters is the fabrication window, typically two to five weeks. Service and repair work sits outside that and gets handled on a much shorter timeline.
- Insured and bonded
- Serving Avon, IN since 2008
Schedule Your Free In-Home Measure
The in home measure is free and takes about an hour for a typical Avon house, closer to two at Timber Bend where the average is 3,412 finished sq ft above grade across 24 to 38 openings and no two of them match. We measure width at head, center and sill, height at left, center and right, and we work from the smallest reading. Every opening gets a square check. Mounting depth gets recorded per opening rather than assumed from the year the house was built. You leave with the numbers on paper.
I agree to be contacted by Avon Window Treatments regarding my inquiry.
Avon didn't incorporate until 1995, and the housing stock shows it. Only about 75 of the town's 8,993 units predate 1940, just 8.3 percent were built before 1980, and 61.9 percent went up after 2000. That changes the job at the window. The 1990s sections carry applied wood casing and a usable jamb, so an inside mount is usually available. The 2010 to 2025 half of Avon, 39.9 percent of every unit in town, commonly runs a drywall return with no casing at all, and that one detail decides whether a headrail sits inside the opening or has to go outside it on brackets. We find that out with a tape before we quote it, not after the order ships from the factory.
Hardware color and control side get decided at the measure and they're hard to change later. Control side means which end the chain or wand lives on, and it should be the end you actually reach without walking around furniture. It sounds trivial until you've lived with a chain behind a chest of drawers for a year in a Avon bedroom.
It's worth being clear about what a warranty covers. Manufacturer coverage on the mechanism is often long. Motors and electronic components carry shorter terms. Batteries are consumables and are typically excluded. Fabric fade is usually excluded too, since no fabric is immune to ultraviolet. We explain that structure at the Avon measure rather than letting the brochure imply something broader.
Built in the Last Few Years?
Many of our Avon customers moved into a house built by one of these companies. Builder blinds are usually stock sizes trimmed to fit, so if yours came with the house and never ran right, that is why. We measure the openings as built rather than off the plan.

What Matters at the Window in Avon
What our crew has learned working in Avon homes.
About Avon Homes
Avon's median house dates to 2005. Build era shares on the parcel record run pre-1940 0.8%, 1940-1979 7.5%, 1980-1999 29.6%, 2000-2019 55.6%, 2020+ 6.3%. Median home value is $323,800. Two different jobs in one town. Pre-2000 sections generally have applied wood casing and a usable jamb. The 2010-2025 half of the stock (39.9 percent of all units) commonly uses drywall returns with no casing at all, which is the single biggest inside mount depth constraint in Avon. INFERRED from build era distribution and prevailing central Indiana production practice. late-1990s and 2000s traditional two story production; ranch and main level living plans (Austin Lakes 53 percent ranch, Avon Trails 58 percent ranch); 2010s and 2020s builder craftsman and farmhouse elevations (Fischer's Manors at Avon is described as two story craftsman with board and batten and.
Where We Work in Avon
We cover homeowners across Avon near Prestwick Country Club, Washington Township Park, the Avon Haunted Bridge (CSX railroad viaduct over White Lick Creek), Avon High School and its Bands of America national championship marching band, Shops on US-36 / Rockville Road.
Surrounding Areas We Serve
Our crew also covers Prestwick, Austin Lakes, Avon Estates, Avon Trails, Oaks of Avon, Timber Bend, Cedar Bend, Bridgewater and Reserve at Bridgewater, Grand Haven at Wynne Farms, Brookstone.
Recent Weather Patterns
Central Indiana sits in IECC climate zone 5A, which means a real cooling load and a real heating load on the same window. NOAA's 1991-2020 normals for Indianapolis put the July average high at 85.2F, the January average high at 36.1F and the January average low at 20.9F, with the muggy season running May 25 to September 22. Split sharply by era. Genuinely mature canopy exists in Prestwick, Timber Bend ('mature trees, gentle hills, and larger lots'), Cedar Bend and Oaks of Avon, where 25 of 35 tracked listings specifically noted mature trees.
What Our Crew Sees in Avon
Two story great room and foyer glass is likely in the 1998-2010 two story stock - Oaks of Avon sold entirely as two story homes averaging 3,105 sq ft. Arched and palladian heads were a late-1990s and early-2000s builder signature and then largely disappeared from 2015-onward production. INFERENCE from era and plan size; no window shape inventory was located. Active new construction includes Brookstone, Manors at Avon, Kensington, Easton Gray, Fairwood.
Who Actually Turns Up in Avon
The same people measure, order and install. Customers name them in reviews, which is the point: you are not getting a subcontractor you have never heard of.

What We Are Running in Avon Right Now
Both offers apply to work quoted and ordered while they are posted here. Ask about them at the in-home measure and we will put the discount on the written quote before you decide anything.
$500 Off Your First Exterior Screen, Plus a Free Motorization Upgrade
Take $500 off your first exterior screen and we will add the motorization upgrade at no charge. Exterior screens stop solar heat outside the glass, which is the only place you can stop it before it is already in the room, and a motor is the difference between using one and forgetting it.
Applies to a first exterior screen. Ask at the measure so the discount is on the written quote before you order. Motorized product runs on batteries that need replacing, about a year on Hunter Douglas PowerView.
Ask about this offerFree Motorization Upgrade on Select Interior Shades
Pick from the qualifying interior shade lines and the motorization upgrade is free. It is worth most on the openings you would otherwise leave alone: tall great room glass, anything above a stair, and the west windows nobody remembers to close by four.
Select interior shade lines only. We will tell you at the measure which of your openings qualify. Batteries are a real running cost and are not included.

A window covering project is worth doing right the first time. Financing options through Avon Window Treatments lender partners help you pay over time instead of cutting scope or delaying the work.
Start the work now and begin paying later. On a whole-house order this is how people phase a large job without phasing the install.
- Payments deferred for a promotional period
- Rate and period set by the lender
- Quoted price held for the order
Divide the project cost into equal monthly payments across a fixed promotional period, so the budget is predictable from day one.

Inspection, Repair, and Replacement
From one room to a whole house, Avon Window Treatments measures every opening, orders it custom, and installs it with the same crew that took the measurements.
Faux Wood Blinds in Avon
Avon Window Treatments measures your openings and installs its own work, and we're insured and bonded. Indiana's Home Improvement Contract Act at IC 24-5-11 requires a written contract with scope and price on residential work over $150, so your Avon order arrives on paper before anything gets fabricated.
Learn moreWood Blinds in Avon
Real wood blinds for Avon. Basswood and hardwood slats stained or painted to your trim, in 2 inch and 2.5 inch, with decorative tapes where the room wants them. Wood belongs in rooms that stay conditioned, and we will tell you which of your rooms those are.
Learn moreVertical Blinds in Avon
Add a matching vertical to a second Avon opening a year later and the vanes won't come off the same run. Vinyl shifts less than fabric, but it shifts. If two doors face each other in one room, they belong on one order.
Learn moreAluminum Mini Blinds in Avon
Even the simplest custom blind takes about two to five weeks, because it's still being built to your numbers. If you're covering a Avon rental turn, that's the schedule to plan against. Nothing in this trade moves faster because somebody asked for it faster.
Learn moreRoller Shades in Avon
The clutch is the wear item. Years of daily use eventually let it slip, and it's replaceable without touching the fabric. If the shade still fits the Avon opening and the cloth is sound, a clutch swap costs a fraction of a reorder.
Learn moreSolar Shades in Avon
Same guts as a roller shade: a tube and a clutch, with the chain under a tensioner anchored to the frame. Where sun is the whole reason for the shade, a sun sensor or an astronomical timer earns its cost in a Avon room nobody's in at four.
Learn moreCellular Shades in Avon
Cellular and honeycomb shades for Avon. The trapped air in the cells is the point, and DOE and ORNL testing measured up to 20 percent heating energy savings against a bare window. Single and double cell, light filtering through blackout, cordless and top-down bottom-up.
Learn moreZebra Shades in Avon
Chain and clutch, same as a roller, with a tensioner anchored into the frame. A cassette hides the roll and finishes the top edge of the Avon window, and it's worth checking whether your trim has the depth for one before the order goes in.
Learn moreRoman Shades in Avon
An interlined Roman is the closest thing to a soft insulator we'll hang. That extra layer adds still air at a cold Avon window in January and blocks summer sun in the afternoon. It also doubles the weight, which changes the hardware and the stack.
Learn moreWoven Wood Shades in Avon
Color in a woven wood is the harvest, and it isn't a paint chip. What arrives will sit within the range of the sample rather than matching it exactly, and it lightens with sun over the years. We show you the range before your Avon order.
Learn moreBlackout Shades in Avon
Blackout shades for Avon bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms. An inside-mounted blackout fabric still leaks light at the edges, which is physics rather than a defect, so a genuinely dark room means an outside mount, side channels or a light-blocking pocket. We tell you that before you order rather than after.
Learn morePlantation Shutters in Avon
Nationally, interior shutters run about $175 to $800 per window, which puts a whole-house Avon order well into real money. Nobody publishes installed pricing for this market, so we're measuring your openings and quoting those rather than working from an average.
Learn moreCafe Shutters in Avon
The uncovered top half is where a July sun gets in, and a low January sun comes in under the panels anyway. Cafe shutters are a privacy product in a Avon house rather than a solar one, and we'd rather be direct than let you find out in August.
Learn moreMotorized Shades in Avon
Motorized and automated shades in Avon. Battery, rechargeable and hardwired motors over RF, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread and Matter, with hardwired runs referred to a licensed electrical contractor. We set the travel limits, build the scenes with you there, and tell you up front what the batteries cost to keep running.
Learn moreCustom Drapery in Avon
National ranges put custom drapery somewhere between $300 and $4,000 per window, which is wide because the category is wide. Two panels of a simple linen and an interlined treatment with real hardware aren't the same purchase, and a Avon quote says which one you're looking at.
Learn moreValances & Top Treatments in Avon
IC 24-5-11 requires a written contract on residential work over $150, and top treatments are exactly where vague scope causes trouble. A Avon quote should name the fabric, the construction, the finished dimensions and the mounting height, because none of that's standard from one workroom to another.
Learn moreExterior Solar Shades in Avon
On a Avon porch a solar mesh also filters what blows in. It isn't an insect screen and we won't sell it as one, but a fine weave slows dust and pollen enough that the furniture underneath stays usable through pollen season.
Learn moreRetractable Awnings in Avon
Solution-dyed acrylic carries color all the way through the fiber, so a Avon awning weathers to a slightly softer version of itself instead of streaking. Printed or coated fabrics cost less and show their age faster, and we'll show you both weaves before you commit.
Learn moreCommercial Window Treatments in Avon
Motorized systems need a power and control plan before anyone orders fabric. Where power comes from, whether the building wants local control or an integrated system, and how a Avon facilities team will service batteries or drives all belong in the design phase, and they don't belong in the punch list.
Learn moreSkylight Shades in Avon
Custom shapes push lead time toward the long end of the usual two to five weeks, and a template for a Avon skylight sometimes has to be made on site before the order can even be written. Nothing about this is fast, and it doesn't need to be.
Learn moreSliding Glass Door Blinds in Avon
Motorizing a patio door treatment is more useful than motorizing a window, because a wide stack takes real effort and you'll feel it daily. A Avon slider on a motor also stops the treatment from being shoved aside by hand, which is what usually breaks the carriers.
Learn morePanel Track Blinds in Avon
Which side the panels stack on should match the door hardware. If the handle on a Avon slider is on the right and the panels stack right, you'll be reaching through fabric to open the door, and that's a decision nobody can undo after fabrication.
Learn moreSheer Shades in Avon
A solar shade and a sheer shade don't solve the same problem. Solar fabric cuts heat and glare while keeping a sharp view out, and a sheer diffuses light and softens the room. A west Avon window usually wants solar, and a front room usually wants this.
Learn morePleated Shades in Avon
Inside mount leaves a gap at both edges, following the same pattern Lutron publishes for rollers at 3/4 inch per side plus a 1/16 inch per side factory deduction. On a Avon window with deep casing that gap sits in shadow, and on flush trim it doesn't.
Learn moreBamboo Shades in Avon
West-facing glass is the hardest place for a natural weave. Direct afternoon sun in a Avon house dries and lightens the fiber year after year, so if that's the window you love the look on, plan on it aging visibly and choose a color that ages well.
Learn moreDual Shades in Avon
After dark the arithmetic flips. Lights on inside a Avon room and the sheer bands read as translucent from outside even when they're offset, so a window that faces a sidewalk wants the blackout tier of this fabric or a second layer behind it.
Learn moreTop-Down Bottom-Up Shades in Avon
Cordless top-down bottom-up removes every loop from the window, which is the right specification in a Avon house with small kids. Inner-cord non-compliance is a substantial product hazard under 16 CFR 1120.3, and this configuration didn't always come cordless.
Learn moreCordless Blinds in Avon
A cordless blind is a mechanism, and mechanisms have a cycle count behind them. Raised and lowered twice a day, a Avon family room blind sees a few thousand cycles before anything feels different, and that's why slat material and headrail quality matter more here than the pretty part of the catalog.
Learn moreHardwood Shutters in Avon
Hardwood shutters for Avon start with the wood itself. Basswood mills clean and stays light enough to hang on standard hinges, and poplar takes paint without the grain telegraphing through it. Neither one is a plastic that shrugs off moisture, and that's the whole conversation about where they belong.
Learn moreComposite Shutters in Avon
Installers earn their keep on the fit. Frames get shimmed plumb, panels hang, and the reveal down the meeting stiles gets adjusted until it's even from top to bottom. A Avon house full of composite panels takes a full day or more, and the sets that look right are the ones nobody rushed.
Learn moreSmart Home Shade Integration in Avon
The honest risk with any hub is that the manufacturer retires it. A bridge that goes end of life can strand working shades on a dead app, so on Avon systems we favor platforms with local control and a physical remote that still works when the internet or the cloud service doesn't.
Learn moreBlind Repair & Restring in Avon
Timing depends on the part. Common cord locks and tilt mechanisms are stocked items, while an odd bracket for a discontinued line can take weeks to source. A Avon repair gets a realistic date once we know which of those categories your blind falls into, and we won't guess before that.
Learn moreShutter Repair in Avon
Water at the sill is the quiet killer. Condensation running down cold glass in January pools on the sill and works into the bottom rail of a hardwood panel, and by the time paint bubbles the material underneath is soft. We'll check the bottom rail on every Avon inspection.
Learn moreMotorization Retrofit in Avon
Access shapes the day. A high Avon stairwell shade means ladder work over stairs, which is slower and needs the space clear. We'd rather schedule realistically for that opening than squeeze it between two easy rooms and rush the part that's actually difficult.
Learn moreOutdoor Patio Shades in Avon
Insects are a separate problem. A solar mesh is not a screen, and a Avon porch that needs bugs kept out wants an actual screen system or a shade with a fine weave specified for it. We'd rather set that expectation now than hear about mosquitoes in July.
Learn moreOffice Window Treatments in Avon
Energy is a product-level attribute. DOE and ORNL testing credits cellular shades with up to 20 percent heating energy savings against a bare window, which matters on a Avon office with single-layer glass and perimeter workstations people won't stop complaining about every January.
Learn moreHealthcare Window Treatments in Avon
Behavioral health areas have their own hardware requirements, and they're specialized. A Avon facility working in that environment should specify products designed and tested for it rather than adapting a standard shade, and we'll say plainly when a request falls outside what a conventional treatment can do.
Learn moreMultifamily Window Treatments in Avon
Exterior uniformity is what the street sees. Many communities require a consistent color facing out so the building reads as one property, and that constrains what a Avon resident can hang without an interior layer. Writing it into the lease package prevents arguments you'd otherwise have later.
Learn moreLocal Expertise, Real Results
The mount is decided by the opening, not by the catalog. In Avon that comes down to whether the house was framed with applied casing or with a drywall return, and you cannot tell which from the curb.
Avon Window Treatments works across Avon and Hendricks County with homeowners, property managers and small commercial clients. What each of them needs is different. Owners want the room to work. Managers want hardware that's cheap to repair. Commercial clients want consistency across forty identical openings and a fabric that meets the specification for the space.
We work Hendricks County, and Avon is the part of it that grew fastest: 6,248 people in 2000, 21,474 in the 2020 count, an estimated 25,350 by July 2025. The town pulled 354 single family permits in the first eight months of 2025 alone, ahead of Brownsburg's 277 and Plainfield's 176 against a county total of 1,084. Growth like that leaves two housing stocks sitting side by side. Some of our measures are in the tight, settled 1990s product at Austin Lakes and Avon Trails. Others are in Brookstone and the current Pulte and Fischer Homes sections, where the lumber is green and the openings are factory square. Those are two different jobs, and we'd rather say so up front than write one quote for both.
We're insured and insured. Indiana issues no license for this trade at all, so the thing actually worth pointing at is the Indiana Home Improvement Contract Act, IC 24-5-11, which requires a written contract carrying a detailed scope of work plus dates and a total price on any residential job over $150. Every Avon quote we write meets that, down to a two window bedroom. You'll also hear what we couldn't confirm. Hendricks County publishes no reachable parcel record for the Prestwick sections, so we won't tell you what year a house on Fairway Drive was framed. We'll measure it. At least nine separately platted Prestwick names appear in the county MLS list, and the houses under them span 1974 to 2026.
Our Promise
We'll measure three points on every opening, run a square check, write down the mounting depth we actually found, and tell you where an inside mount will leave a light gap before you pay anything. If an Avon opening won't take the product you want, you'll hear it at the measure and not at the install.
Why Our Avon Work Holds Up in Year Five
Serving Avon and Hendricks County with quality materials, thorough inspections, and transparent pricing.
We measure the return before the fabric
Avon's 2010 to 2025 construction is 39.9 percent of every housing unit in town, and most of it has no applied casing: the drywall wraps into the opening and stops. That cuts usable mounting depth, and a headrail or cassette needing a full inch and a half of flat depth simply won't clear it. We put a tape on the actual depth at every opening in Brookstone, Kensington and Manors at Avon before anyone opens a fabric book, because the answer changes the product and not just the price.
Two Avons, two different jobs
The 1990s alone account for 25.6 percent of Avon's housing, and those Austin Lakes and Avon Trails houses are now thirty to thirty five years settled on 2x4 walls with shallow jamb returns. Openings there read out of square more often than the town wide numbers suggest, and inside mounts get tight. The 2000s and 2010s stock has the opposite problem: square and repeatable, but shallow. The fact that 61.9 percent of Avon went up after 2000 doesn't make the 29.6 percent built 1980 to 1999 measure the same way.
Light gaps disclosed at the measure
Every inside mount leaves a gap. Lutron publishes 3/4 inch per side on the Roller 20/64 and a standard factory deduction of 1/16 inch per side, and shades over 120 inches tall or past a 4:1 height to width ratio get larger gaps still. On a two story family room window at Oaks of Avon, where all 35 tracked sales were two story homes averaging 3,105 sq ft, that gap sits at eye level from the upstairs landing. If the room has to go dark, we'll price a side channel or an outside mount and say why.
Written down before it's ordered
Custom fabrication runs 2 to 5 weeks, and there's no version of this work that happens overnight. You'll have finished width, finished height, mount type, roll direction, control side and stack height in writing before anything goes to the factory, plus the openness factor on any solar fabric. On a Cedar Bend house averaging just over 4,000 finished sq ft across 26 to 45 openings, none of which repeat, that written list is the difference between one order and three rounds of corrections.
Real Jobs. Real Results.
Photos from recent window treatment projects completed by the crew that measured them across Avon and Hendricks County. Every project is documented with photos and a written closeout package.

Your Avon Timeline, Explained
Four steps, and the order matters. Most of what goes wrong on a window covering job in Avon goes wrong at step one, because somebody assumed a mounting depth from the year on the county record instead of measuring it. A 1998 Oaks of Avon opening and a 2026 Brookstone opening are both square. They are not both deep, and they don't take the same headrail.
Measure and square check
Width at head, center and sill. Height at left, center and right. We record the smallest number rather than the average, then check the opening for square. Austin Lakes is thirty to thirty five years settled on 2x4 walls and Timber Bend spans 1992 to 2024, so a fully settled house and a green one can sit on the same street. Mounting depth gets written per opening, because it varies inside a single Avon house more often than people expect.
Product and mount decision
With real depths in hand we tell you what will physically fit. Shallow drywall returns, the standard condition across Avon's post-2010 stock, push work to an outside mount, a shallow projection bracket or a low profile headrail. Then we settle roll direction: reverse roll clears a deep sill or a crank handle but isn't compatible with a fascia, so that's a decision, not a default. Control side, stack height and openness factor all get chosen here, in front of you, before anything is committed.
Order and lead time
Everything goes to the factory as finished width and finished height with the 1/16 inch per side factory deduction applied. Custom fabrication is typically 2 to 5 weeks. If you're phasing a 26 to 45 opening house like Cedar Bend, we record the dye lot on the first order and reference it later, because fabric run a year apart in a different lot will not match under Avon's west facing afternoon light.
Install and adjust
We hang it, level the headrails, set travel limits and pairing on anything motorized, and adjust the ladder strings or the clutch until every unit runs the same. On the two story family room glass common in the 1998 to 2004 Oaks of Avon stock, reach gets settled at install: a pole, a wand or a motor, decided then rather than left to you afterward. The packaging leaves with us.
What we see most often on Avon window treatments
Avon homeowners typically call us about these scenarios.
Selling And The Windows Look Tired
Faded fabric, one broken lift and a valance clip missing. Buyers notice on a viewing even when they can't name what's wrong. A clean, an adjustment and one or two small repairs across an Avon house is inexpensive and it removes an objection before anybody makes it. It's one of the cheapest things a seller can do before photographs are taken.
One Remote For Six Shades
A house full of motorized shades that were never grouped, so operating the great room takes six button presses and nobody bothers. Grouping into scenes is programming, not hardware, and it is the difference between a system people use and an expensive set of shades that stay where they are.
A Sunroom That Is Unusable In July
Glass on three sides and a July average high near 85.2F means the room hits an unpleasant temperature by early afternoon and stays there. Interior shades help. The bigger change is stopping the sun outside on the worst elevation, and that's a conversation most people have never had. Treating the interior alone in that room often disappoints people who spent real money.
A Shade Hung On Drywall Alone
It came down, probably in year two, with the anchors still in the bracket and a hole in the wall where the fixing pulled through. Brackets belong in studs, headers or anchors rated for the load. This is an install failure rather than a product failure, and it's entirely preventable.
A Nursery That Became A Bedroom
The blackout that suited a baby now blocks the light a nine year old wants for reading. Rooms change function and the treatment can usually keep up by adding a top-down feature or a second layer rather than starting over. It is a small job that people delay for years.
Great Room Glass Nobody Can Reach
Two stories of window above a fireplace, blazing in the afternoon and freezing at night, and no realistic way to operate a manual shade. Households live with it bare for years. Motorized shades on that wall aren't a luxury, they're the only version of the product that will actually get used.
Five Stages, In This Order
Custom window treatments are made to your openings, so the order matters more than it does in most trades. This is how every Avon job runs.
Free In-Home Measure
Every opening gets three widths, three heights and a diagonal square check, because houses settle and an opening that is out of square is the difference between a shade that runs true and one that binds. Mounting depth gets read at the jamb. It all goes on paper before any product conversation starts.
Product and Fabric, In Your Own Light
Samples get looked at in the room they are going in, not under showroom lighting. This is where openness factor, inside versus outside mount, roll direction and material get decided, and where we tell you the light gap you are going to live with.
Written Scope and Contract
Opening by opening, with the mount type, the light gap, the operation and the total price in writing. Indiana requires a written contract on residential work over $150 under IC 24-5-11, and we would write one anyway.
Custom Fabrication
Your sizes go to the workroom. Two to five weeks is typical depending on product and finish, longer on specialty shapes and motorized configurations. You get the real date at the measure rather than a range.
Install and Walkthrough
Brackets anchored for the substrate they are going into, everything checked level and square, motor travel limits set and scenes built with you standing there. Then we show you how it all works and take the packaging with us.
Reviews From Around Avon
4.8 stars across 497+ Google reviews for The Window Valet, who runs this service.
"I am a Real Estate agent and I am very picky on what vendors I refer to my clients. I always highly recommend Window Valet for anyone needing to have blinds installed in their home. They did my own home for me as well. Justin is great to work with and will walk you through all your choices and help you with understanding all the products they have at your disposal."
"The owner was made aware that we needed a quote sooner than the appointment we originally were scheduled. On that same day he took the time to meet with us right away and gave us the best quote possible for our 3,000 square foot home. Our installer, Handy, was on time, polite, informative with our motorized shades, and completed the installation within 2 hours."
"All aspects of working with Window Valet were excellent. Erica was very responsive and well prepared for the initial consultation, the prices were reasonable and the installation by Handy was smooth and timely. We had every window in our home installed by him in only one day. There was barely a sound made and everything was cleaned up prior to his departure. Highly recommend working with this company."
"Justin Noel was excellent in helping us select our window treatments. We had worked with Window Valet before and have been quite happy with the products and installation."
Answers Before You Sign in Avon
Straight answers to the questions Avon homeowners ask most.
Indiana Weather Affects Window Treatments Year Round
Indiana sees some of the most varied weather in the country. Avon homeowners live in IECC climate zone 5A, which carries a real cooling load in summer and a real heating load in winter. July averages a high near 85F, January averages a high near 36F with lows near 21F, and the muggy season runs from late May into late September. That is why the same window can be the hottest room in the house in July and the coldest in January.
Cellular shades earn both seasons
DOE and Oak Ridge National Laboratory testing found cellular shades saved up to 20 percent of heating energy and up to 15 percent of total heating and cooling energy compared with a bare window. In a Zone 5A town where the January average low is 20.9F and the July average high is 85.2F, that's one product answering two problems. It matters most on the 39.9 percent of Avon built since 2010, where there's no tree canopy doing any of the work for you.
Water facing glass is its own problem
Bridgewater and The Reserve at Bridgewater share common lakes across 230 homes. Austin Lakes threads lakes and retention ponds right through its plat, and Brookstone sells on pond views. Water facing glass takes direct low sun plus reflection off the surface, which is more a glare problem than a heat problem. A solar fabric at 3 or 5 percent openness cuts the glare and keeps the water view. A 1 percent cuts more and shows less, and that's the choice people regret on a lake lot.
Fading is slowed, never stopped
NFRC attributes roughly 40 to 60 percent of fading damage to ultraviolet. Nothing you hang in a window stops the rest, which arrives as visible light and heat. In Avon Estates, where about half of closed sales backed to water and the rear elevations carry the widest glass on the house, a solar fabric at 3 percent openness or a light filtering cellular will slow what happens to flooring and furniture. It won't prevent it. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.
Bare lots north and west
Avon issued 354 single family permits in the first eight months of 2025, more than any other municipality in Hendricks County. Those houses went up on former farm ground, so there's no shade coming for fifteen or twenty years. Brookstone's own marketing leads with open green space and pond views. In practice that means full unbroken afternoon sun on the rear glass of a Westchester plan at 3,300 sq ft, which is why room darkening in the bedrooms there isn't a luxury item.

Choosing the Right Treatment for Avon Rooms
An honest breakdown of the three we specify most often, and when each one is the right answer.
The one product in this trade with measured energy numbers behind it. Trapped air in the cells does the work, and DOE and ORNL testing found cellular shades saved up to 20 percent on heating energy and up to 15 percent on total heating and cooling against a bare window. In a Avon house that matters in January and again in July, which is unusual for one product. Single cell suits most rooms, double cell where the glass is large or the room runs cold. Top-down bottom-up gets you daylight and privacy at the same time.
What you reach for when the complaint is afternoon sun. Solar fabrics come in stated openness factors, and that number is the whole decision: a lower openness cuts more glare and more of the view, a higher one keeps the view and cuts less. On a west or south Avon window this is usually the honest answer rather than blackout, because blackout kills the room. Cassette or fascia hides the roll, and roll direction gets decided at the measure so the fabric does not foul a crank or a lock.
The one that stays with the house. Shutters are a finish rather than a covering, and they do not get replaced every few years. In Avon the material choice is technical rather than a matter of taste: composite and poly in bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms and sunrooms, because a four month humid season followed by a dry heated winter will move real hardwood, and hardwood only where the room stays conditioned. Louver size, frame style and divider rail get decided standing at your window.
See What Each Fabric Does To The Light
Pick a fabric below and the window updates. It's a drawing rather than a photograph, so read it as a rough guide to what each family does in a Avon room, and to what it doesn't do.
Openness factor is a measured fabric spec, so you can compare it line to line. The category names are not measured. One maker's room darkening can behave like another maker's light filtering, which is why the sample books come to the measure and get opened in the room they're going in, at the hour that room has the problem.
